We (Pakistani) are More Civilized!

We Pakistani are always label as uncivilized nation. We are intolerant, ill mannered. Still we are more civilized and brave as compare to other civilized nations. How? A nation deprive from the necessities of life. A country where food is not sufficient, access to clean water is a luxury. Shortage of electricity and gas, unfortunately has become a norm of the society… you name the problem, we have it.. Quality of life is pathetic rather miserable


In addition, when it comes to protest for our rights, we only burn few tyers, hold few play cards, banners, and a candle light vigil. We usually protest for few hours and then went back to our work. Next morning we all get up like a normal human being assuming that things are normal now. Reason being, we are peace-loving nation.


Now if we look at the most civilized nation “British society”. A society, which is bless with all the basic human rights. Where quality of life is like, one would dream to live in.  However, if we go back to last year’s riots of U.K. where the angry and anguish mob burned whole London, Manchester, Bristol, causing loss of billions. Their tolerance level becomes visible to rest of the world. The ambassador of peace miserably failed to deliver what they have been posing from ages.


Now who is more tolerant? More civilized? It is extremely difficult to survive in a country like Pakistan where political instability is a constant factor since its birth. A country, in which, religious extremism is at its peak. Having all the bad things, yet we the people of Pakistan celebrate our festivals with full zeal. Be it our Eid, Independence Day, Marriages, Birthdays, Political gatherings, New Year, 25 December and even cricket match. We are a happy nation in real sense.


We proudly stand among the bravest nations as we live in conditions no other nation could not even think of surviving. We have the strength and the power and above all, we have faith in ourselves. We are very forgiving nation. We always forgave the bad and ill of others, we only remember the good part. We are an optimistic nation.

میرا نے چڑیا گھر سے ہرن کے دو بچے گود لے لئے

لاہور ۔فلم سٹار میرا نے لاہور کے چڑیا گھر سے ہرن کے دو بچے گود لے لئے ہیں وہ ایک سال تک ان بچو ں کی کفالت کریں گی۔ میرا نے فی بچہ ایک لاکھ آٹھ ہزار روپے سالانہ کے حساب سے چڑیا گھر انتظامیہ کو جمع کرا دیئے ہیں۔ میرا کا کہنا ہے کہ وہ ہرن کے دو بچے گود لینے کے بعد پانچ انسانی بچے بھی گود لینے کا اراد ہ رکھتی ہیں ۔ واضح رہے اس سے قبل بھی ریما نے دو ہرن کے بچے گود لئے تھے مگر وہ زیادہ دیر تک ان بچوں کی کفالت نہ کر سکیں۔

My Heart is Pakistan

اردو ترکی کا لفظ ہے، جِس کا تلفظ ’اوردو‘ ہے اور معنی فوج کے ۔۔

کئی برس پہلے’ وائس آف امریکہ‘ کے ساتھ ایک خصوصی گفتگو میں پروفیسرخلیل توقر نے’اردو اور بر صغیر کے مسلمانوں کے ساتھ اپنی قربت اور یگانگت‘  کا ذکر کیا۔

اِس انٹرویو میں خلیل توقر نے بتایا کہ اُنھوں نے اردو استنبول یونی ورسٹی میں پڑھی۔ پھر اردو کے ساتھ اتنی رغبت بڑھی کہ

اسی زبان میں شاعری شروع کردی۔  اپنی شاعری  کا تذکرہ کرتے ہوئے اُنھوں نے یہ دلچسپ انکشاف کیا کہ ُان کی اہلیہ کا تعلق لاہور سے ہے۔ شادی سے قبل اُنھوں نے اپنے جذبات کے اظہار کے لیے شاعری کو ذریعہ بنایا۔

وہ کہتے ہیں : ’ہوا یہ کہ میں اپنا درد و الم، شکوہ شکایات جو دوسروں سے چھپا رہا تھا تو میں اسے اپنی اہلیہ سے چھپانے کے لیے شاعری کا سہارا لیا،  تاکہ اُن کو میری باتیں بری نہ لگیں ۔ اور یوں میں شعر کہتا رہا ۔ پھر، بعد میں، میری اہلیہ نے میرے اشعار جمع کرنا شروع کردیے’۔

’اب میرے کلام کے دو مجموعے ہیں۔ ایک کا نام ہے’ ایک قطرہ آنسو‘ اور’ آخری فریاد‘۔ ویسے، میں خود بنیادی طور پر بے حد شرمیلا ہوں۔ اِس لیے، میں دوسروں کو اپنی شاعری نہیں دکھاتا۔ زیادہ تر میں آزاد شاعری کرتا ہوں۔ میں نے  شاعری کے لیے باقاعدہ شاگردی اختیا ر نہیں کی۔  مجھے شروع سے کلاسیکی شاعری کا شوق ہے۔ مجھے میر، غالب، فیض  اور ن م راشد بہت پسند ہیں‘۔

خلیل توقر کہتے ہیں کہ میں شاعری کرتے ہوئے یہ سوچتا ہوں کہ اپنے اندر کے درد و الم کو بیا ن کروں۔ ’میں نے ایک ادبی رسالہ ’ارتباط‘ کے نام سے نکالا ، جس کا مقصد نئی نسل کو اپنے صدیوں پرانے تعلقات سے روشناس کرانا  اور اُن کی تجدید کرنا تھا۔

اہلِ دل  سے کر لیا  عہدِ وفا   پھر  کیا  ہوا

جامِ غم میں بھر دیا غم بے وفا پھر کیا ہوا

بر سرِ عالم کہا  ہٹ جا مری رہ سے خلیل

زندگی سے کر دیا مجھ کو خفا پھر  کیا  ہوا

جنونِ محبت کی سرحد سے آگے

بٹھا کر اکیلے میرے یار بھاگے

چھپایا غمِ دہر  قلبِ حزیں  میں

فرشتے مری آہ سن کے نہ جاگے

انسانیت کہاں گئی ہے انسانو

مجھے اب تک اس کی تلاش رہتی ہے

تھک گیا لاچار ہوا بے بس رہا

Meet Roshaneh Zafar

Did you know that one of the most successful microfinance organizations in the world is actually setup in Pakistan by a Pakistani woman? I am talking about Kashf Foundation and it’s founder Roshaneh Zafar. And while I was searching for more information, I came across a very interesting fact about her which is going to pleasantly surprise many. But for this you have to wait till the end.

Roshaneh received her BSc in Finance and BA in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and her MA in International Development Economics from Yale University. Inspired by the success of Grameen Bank, Roshaneh left her World Bank post to start the Kashf Foundation in 1996. It was the first microfinance institute in Pakistan.

With a growing staff base of 1,600 employees in 152 branch locations in Punjab and Sindh, the Kashf Foundation offers customers two loan products: a general loan (up to US$ 138) for building economic opportunities, and an emergency loan (up to US$ 35) for families to meet unplanned expenditures or emergencies.

In 2002, Kashf Foundation was awarded the Microfinance Excellence Award by the Grameen Foundation-USA for its groundbreaking innovations in the field of microfinance in Pakistan. In 2005 it won the AGFUND International Prize for Microcredit 2005 out of 98 countries. In 2008, Forbes ranked Kashf Foundation 34th in its top 50 MFIs of the World. Ms. Zafar has also been awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian awards 2005, by the President of Pakistan.
